GIS tools are provided to map your forest. The system allows the user to map the forest canopy, productive zones (strata), etc.
To start with the forest mapping, the user need to create an operation.
The operations are snapshot in time where the user can map the current status of the forest and add inventory information.
In the current version of ForestHQ, the user can map the forest canopy (productive area) and productive zones (Strata) . Further layers would be available in the next realises of ForestHQ.
FOREST CANOPY
The productive area or forest canopy cover is defined as the area covered by the tree crowns.
To create the productive area of your forest, use the edit tool (pencil) to outline the forest canopy area.
To proceed the user should draw a polygon and extend the productive area. In the same way, the user can draw a polygon and remove the section of productive area
PRODUCTIVE ZONES
The Strata is defined a areas of the forest with similar characteristics (same spices and plant year, similar productivity, etc.)
A good stratification is key for a good forest management and to plan the forest activities.
To create an strata use the edit tool (pencil icon).
To proceed the user should draw a polygon and create an strata.
In the same way, the user can draw a polygon and chose one of the following options:
Create new Strata (regular). Create new strata within the polygon boundaries. In case this polygon intersect an exiting polygon, the existing polygon will not be affected.
This options is good to create new strata and fill gaps overlapping existing polygons without begin afraid to modify the existing polygons.
Create new Strata (aggressive). Create new strata within the polygon boundaries. In case this polygon intersect an exiting polygon, the existing polygon will be modified.
Cut Strata to delete area highlighted by the polygon
Split Strata to split the area from existing strata in 2 different strata
Extend Strata to extend the strata area.
Discard drawing to cancel the edit
The merging Strata tool will merge two or more Strata to a single one
To Merge strata click on the "Start Selecting" button
Select Blocks to merge by clicking in each strata with the mouse
Click Merge shapes to merge the blocks
** The Blocks will inherit the name and attributes from first block selected.
The strata names, plant year, and additional information can be edited in the Strata table.
