ForestHQ facilitates the measurement and valuation of your forest.
This includes mobile applications to measure your forest in a more efficient way and online tools to get an automated forest valuation.
Before start, you would need to create a Forest Property, if you have not done this before.
There are different ways of creating or importing a Forest Property. The easier way to get started, if you are not using a GIS, is to draw your own boundaries.
You can find the option to create a new Forest on the left panel.
Then, chose the "Manually Draw" option and insert your forest name
Zoom to your forest area until it is easy for you to appreciate the forest details.
Start adding polygons by selecting the "Pencil" tool. To draw the forest boundary click on the map at each vertex. To finish double-click or press enter. You can repeat this process and add as many polygons as you need.
1. Create Forest
2. Manually Draw Forest Boundaries
3. Add polygons for your forest boundaries
Step 1
Within the Forest project, the activities options are placed on the left side panel.
To get started select "Add New Activity"
To successfully create an operation, the user must fill out all of the required fields:
Name: Unique name or ID for the Activity that shall be used for identification.
Category: Select the type of operation from the given list. For "measurement and valuation" activities there are 3 options, that are related to the way of collecting data:
Arboreal Data: select this option to measure the forest yourself using an iPhone.
Treemtrics Field App: select this option if you are using measurement tools (caliper and hypsometer)
Import data from XLS/CSV file: select this option if you have your own way to measure your forest or you already have the measurement data.
Step 2
After the operation has been created, follow the workflow defined on the right-side panel to get measurement analysis and forest valuations.
All the measurement and valuation activities have the following steps:
Forest Boundaries already defined in step 1
Activity Boundaries already defined in step 2
Productive Zones
Data Collection
Inventory and Valuation Results
To improve the valuation and estimation of timber product yield, the Forest can be subdivided with the help of the background imagery.
Areas without trees, such as roads, streams, and other clearings can be removed by editing the Productivity Zones
Productivity Zones are usually defined as areas of the forest with similar characteristics (same spices and plant year, similar production, etc.)
The background images can be used to map the different areas.
ForestHQ supports different ways of data collection. Learn more about the different options listed below:
Option 1: Arboreal Forest
DO IT YOURSELF
Simple to use
Good accuracy
No extra tools required
Working on iPhone
Arboreal is the simpler and easier way to measure your forest. Highly recommended to improve efficiency.
Option 2: TM Forest App
PROFESSIONALS USING TRADITIONAL TOOLS
Maps and offline navigation system
Connection with measurement tools
Working on Android devices.
This application is compatible with traditional measurements using calipers and Vertex hypsometers.
Option 3: Import your data
ALREADY HAVE MEASUREMENT DATA
Compatible with other measurement systems
If you are using other measurement systems you can also import your data in Excel or CSV format.
The "Inventory & Valuation" section, includes the measurement results after the data has been collected in the field.
Depending on the method used for the data collection, this section may be different. Chose one of these options:
